Homelessness

Homelessness

As winter begins, there are tens of thousands of homeless people across the UK. Last year local councils saw an increase of 10% in the number of homeless people, the first increase in almost a decade. Many factors contribute to homelessness, including unemployment, lack of affordable housing, cuts to services and benefits, substance abuse, physical and mental illness– the list is long and all too common, especially in an economic downturn. Homelessness can lead to other vulnerabilities such as malnutrition, exposure to the severity of the elements, violence, social disadvantages and discrimination. There is a vital need for the homeless to have access to the very basics of life: shelter, warmth, safety, food, medical services. Gift Aid it!

Giving through the Community Foundations also lets us automatically claim Gift Aid, adding 25% to your donation, even to charities too small to be registered. Higher rate tax payers can claim up to an additional 22%.

Who we are

Localgiving.com is a social enterprise owned by the Community Foundation Network (CFN) and the Ardbrack Foundation, both registered charities dedicated to supporting local charities. CFN is the national body of the 57 Community Foundations in the UK. In 2009 they distributed £56m to 17,000 local charities.
