We have all seen examples of residents sitting in chairs all day, bored, some unable to break this pattern themselves. Older people in care have often been prominent and important people in our local communities and it is important we do not forget them. Alive! aims to make older people feel important again by enabling them to connect with other residents, staff at the home and the wider community thereby improving their quality of life and making them feel ALIVE!
Alive! has a regular client base of 60 homes and in the last year held 350 sessions which connected with 4,900 older people. Introverted, isolated people join in and break down barriers between themselves, care staff and other residents. People who are no longer able to hold a conversation sing whole songs, and one lady who had not spoken for several weeks amazed everyone by reciting William Wordsworth's poem 'Daffodils' which reduced the care home staff to tears of emotion and joy!
