A local charity which supports victims of domestic abuse, including children and young people.

We are a local charity that has been providing emergency, temporary accommodation and emotional and practical support for women and their children fleeing domestic violence. We manage three safe-houses within our local area. At any one time 14 families from across East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire will be resident in our homes. In addition we provide advocacy and outreach services within the community for both male and female victims and a specialist children's Service.
Why the community needs this charity

We aim to support those affected by domestic abuse living within our community. The area in which we cover is very diverse and so we provide services which are tailored to meet the cultural and social needs of our clients. Many of the clients which we work with are at very high risk from violence and so we work intensively with the client to help keep them safe and to support them to access services which can enable them to break free from violence.

Results and outcomes

Last year: 67 women were resident within our safe houses they received one-to-one support to help them rebuild their lives. 802 victims were supported through our Independent Domestic Violence Advocacy and Outreach service. These victims received direct support to help them stay safe and tailored support to help them overcome the abuse that they have experienced. 62 children were resident with our safe houses. They received specialist help from trained workers through our Children's Service

Parenting Support Coordinator

The project is delivered by a trained Parenting Support worker. The worker runs a range of one-to-one and group sessions which are targeted at strengthening the relationship between a mother who has been the victim of domestic abuse and her child/ren. The work is delivered within our new Sunbeams Centre so that the environment is comfortable and safe which helps families open up about their feelings and share their experiences. read more
