We aim to support those affected by domestic abuse living within our community. The area in which we cover is very diverse and so we provide services which are tailored to meet the cultural and social needs of our clients. Many of the clients which we work with are at very high risk from violence and so we work intensively with the client to help keep them safe and to support them to access services which can enable them to break free from violence.
Last year: 67 women were resident within our safe houses they received one-to-one support to help them rebuild their lives. 802 victims were supported through our Independent Domestic Violence Advocacy and Outreach service. These victims received direct support to help them stay safe and tailored support to help them overcome the abuse that they have experienced. 62 children were resident with our safe houses. They received specialist help from trained workers through our Children's Service
To support victims of abuse from Eastern Europe the trained worker provides one-to-one support to help the victim assess her situation and plan her escape should she need to flee urgently. The worker will advocate for the victim to local agencies to ensure that she can access the support that she needs, this includes accessing legal advice, healthcare, social services the police and housing. Where appropriate the worker will also support the victim to bring the perpetrator of the abuse. read more
The project is delivered by a trained Parenting Support worker. The worker runs a range of one-to-one and group sessions which are targeted at strengthening the relationship between a mother who has been the victim of domestic abuse and her child/ren. The work is delivered within our new Sunbeams Centre so that the environment is comfortable and safe which helps families open up about their feelings and share their experiences. read more
