Surviving Winter London aims to raise awareness of the effects of fuel poverty and social isolation

Donations made to Surviving Winter London will go to help older Londoners who struggle to stay warm, safe and healthy at winter.

You will tackle cold homes and poverty directly through free training and support for older people and their carers, helping them to break out of the cycle of fuel poverty.

You will also support voluntary groups tackling the broader issues of isolation and ill-health as well as helping older people to attend doctor’s appointments, get to the shops, and participate in social activities and befriending schemes.

The Capital Community Foundation has changed its name to the London Community Foundation. The name change is the latest step in the evolution of the Community Foundation, following the merger in 2011 between The Capital Community Foundation (CCF) and Thames Community Foundation (TCF). The merger has provided an opportunity for the two Community Foundations to increase their impact across London, and the new name will strengthen this work.

Our experience shows that local organisations in London are often best situated to identify and respond flexibly to emerging needs, and can reach the most marginalised communities and individuals.

Capital Community Foundation has 15 years experience of finding and funding these charities and community organisations across London. Through partnership with a range of donors we have delivered over £20million in more than 3,500 grants.

Communities in the area and their needs

Wealth and poverty live side by side in London, with middle class terraces, green spaces and trendy high streets blending into run-down estates and empty playgrounds. Poverty, isolation and crime affect too many.

London is the most unequal region in England, with the country's richest living alongside the country's poorest households.

London has the highest child, working-age and pensioner poverty rates of any region in England. Over half of London's children live in low-income households.

We work with donors

Our donors can set up funds in their own names and specify the direction of these funds. We enable collaboration between government, commerce, private wealth and communities to tackle important issues most effectively. We encourage donors to give strategically, focusing on building long term, sustainable income for London.

We work with local groups

We use our in-depth knowledge and an insider's view of the voluntary sector to access and engage with the people we need to reach. We build capacity for receiving grants by offering training and in-house support to small community groups. We maintain an ongoing relationship with the groups we fund. We'll talk to them about arising issues and how to address them in order to successfully deliver their services.
