LRCC helps address the devastating impact rape and sexual abuse has on individuals and communities.

Lanarkshire Rape Crisis Centre (LRCC) provides practical and emotional support to women and girls who have experienced/been affected by rape/sexual abuse at any time in their lives. It aims to support and empower females to help them make positive life transitions. We currently work with around 75 females each year, most of whom self-refer. LRCC covers the whole of Lanarkshire which is two local authority areas North and South), with a total population of around 626,000.
Why the community needs this charity

From our work and structured support, women and girls gain in confidence and stature and this ultimately leads to improved lifestyles, which indirectly impacts on families and local communities in a very positive way. Survivors of sexual violence often feel isolated and alone in their lives. We help to support them to put things into context and recognise that it is their right to be included in society. Long term benefits of support from LRCC include becoming a productive member of society.

Results and outcomes

Women and girls who have been supported by LRCC say they have their lives back. The impact of sexual violence includes, lack of confidence, fear, anger, guilt, self-blame, self-harm and isolation amongst many others. We receive feedback that shows how far users have come when supported, like an increase in confidence, self-esteem, self-image. Like going into further education, or back to work. The ability to have control in your own life cannot be taken for granted, but you can if supported
