Age UK Sunderland aims to promote the well being of all people aged 50+ throughout Sunderland.
Our purpose is to improve quality of life for people 50+ and help them maintain independence through a variety of services and support. We aim to encourage and enable the voice of people 50+ to be heard and represent their views and opinions; provide quality services across the City; campaign on issues affecting people 50+
and recognize and value diversity in all that we do and recognize the diversity of people 50+ and their different needs, choices, cultures and values.
Why the community needs usSunderland has a growing population of people aged 50+ and remaining active in later life can play an active role in reducing social isolation, combating depression and improving physical and mental health. Given the diversity of the older population, it is not a surprise to see that people 50+ are more active in the decade following retirement than at later stages when poorer health and limited mobility can begin to effect daily activities.
Our impact on the communityHelping over 2,000 people per week, we enable people 50+ to live independently and exercise choice;we draw strength from the voices of people 50+, and ensure that those voices are heard and influence policy and strategy; we are innovative and driven by results and constantly deliver for people 50+; we are passionate about what we do and care about each individual. In this way people feel more independent, less isolated, part of the wider community, being valued and respected.
We have a range of volunteering opportunities including Day / Lunch Clubs, Friendly Faces Befriending, Good Neighbour and many other projects at Age UK Sunderland. We are also seeking volunteers to be actively involved in a Fundraising Committee and also our 2 area committees in Houghton and Washington.
