Stroke Support for Local People

The support group aims to provide a friendly meeting place for people who have had a stroke and their carers and to offer support in the form of information given by visiting speakers and activities that can help ongoing recovery. Once a fortnight the members take part in seated exercise to music provided by 'Extend'. The group also provides specific support for people with aphasia.
Why the community needs this charity

As a support group we aim to help stroke survivors and their carers by providing an opportunity for them to meet other people who are experiencing similar problems. Members appreciate being able to chat and share stories and join in with the fun exercise sessions.

Results and outcomes

Reduce social isolation, help improve peoples' confidence and improve mobility. Additional communication support gives stroke survivors an opportunity to speak in a supportive environment.
