Our aim is to support anyone suffering from one or more of the 200 types of arthritis empowering them and assiting them in good management of their disease. We achieve our purpose using education, information, emotional support, physical help and alleviation of social isolation. Raising awareness is vital as the disease has a poor public image although it can affect anyone at any age from a baby to the very elderly.
Social isolation from disease and lack of integration is prevalent in our multi-ethnic community. Arthritis does not discriminate and is a great social leveller. Our charity offers support for everyone regardless of race, creed or age helping them to cope with their disease in daily life. Our community benefits from greater social integration and a platform to share common needs and goals.
Provision of affordable alternative forms of therapy are overwhelmingly successful as particpants regularly endorse the benefits they derive. Dr Guy Dabrera, Consultant Rheumatologist at King George Hospital, hosts a monthly Patient Education [question] Forum and he says "An educated patient is easier to treat and has a cost saving to the NHS."Self-help meetings have supported members in good disease management. Our assisted allotment produces food and a place to socialise
