Base 51 - enabling local young people in the city and county of Nottingham reach their potential

BASE 51 adopts the World Health Organisation's definition of health: "Health is a state of optimal physical and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity" Base 51 fulfils this through supporting young people aged between 12 - 25, providing easy access to services including: Health, Counselling, Housing Advice and Support, Learning Support, Support for young parents, Practical support such as affordable meals, and Free laundry and showers.
Why the community needs this charity

Base 51 recognises the challenges facing young people particularly those, for example, who experience relationship breakdown in their families, find school difficult, have been in care, are a young parent or homeless. A "wrap round" service in one centre enables young people to work through these issues, make the transition to adulthood and contribute positively to their local community. Base 51 is in the city centre and is well used by young people from all areas of the city and walks of life.

Open Access

The Open Access drop-in runs Monday to Friday and provides young people with a safe place to go, access to facilities and services they can't get anywhere else, and gives them someone to talk to about issues that they might be facing - we do this in a friendly and supportive environment that is non-judgemental and inclusive. read more

Volunteers Required

Volunteer opportunities include directly supporting young people, being a member of the counselling team or working in the office. For volunteers working with young people we ask for some experience, this need not be paid work as life skills are equally important. All volunteers are CRB checked.Full induction and training is given. Details are on our website. I have been a Volunteer at Base 51 for nearly 6 months. I thoroughly enjoy working here and I have learnt so much in this short time.
