BK LUWO is a Northern Ugandan refugee women's initiative, open to the wider community.

BK LUWO help provide a safe and neutral learning environment for refugee and immigrant women of African descent, but open to anyone seeking support. We run two informal drop-in sessions where we share creative skills such as sewing, knitting, crochet and embroidery, storytelling, homeland language to preserve cultural heritage and computer skills. We also hold community and cultural events as a means of sharing and celebrating our rich heritage with the wider community.
Why the community needs this charity

BK LUWO is different to other services as it offers culturally appropriate activities to a 'hard-to-reach' group, attracting participants in a relaxed way with a warm welcome and providing a learning space in a safe, mutually supportive atmosphere. New skills are learnt and existing skills are passed on.

Results and outcomes

BK LUWO is a user-led community group that has a huge impact empowering its participants - improving mental and emotional health, confidence and self-worth, while bringing people together and breaking isolation.
