Multiple Sclerosis is an incurable and unpredictable disease that affects the Central Nervous System. Like all chronic illnesses, the problems are both physical and emotional. The therapies we provide at the Centre include physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, foot care and counselling. These therapies are aimed at managing the physical symptoms of the illness and dealing with the emotional difficulties that come with it, therefore enabling people with MS to live more positive and independent lives.
The Centre currently supports over 1,000 people with Multiple Sclerosis, as well as their families and carers, providing approximately 9,600 treatments and therapies a year. As a result people affected by MS are enjoying a better quality of life. Local people with MS are living more positive and independent lives and feel able to remain in work for longer. They also have improved mobility and feel more able to manage their fatigue and other symptoms.
Volunteers are always welcome to help at events such as Walking for MileS or the Reading Half Marathon. We also need volunteers to help run the hyperbaric oxygen chamber (full training given)and the reception area, and to help with fundraising collections.
