Cruse - somewhere to turn to when someone dies.
To offer support, advice and information for bereaved children, young people and adults, who have lost a loved-one and are struggling emotionally.
Why the community needs usCruse Bristol & District serves the communities of Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, providing free support to anybody who asks for help. We run a telephone helpline, Drop-In Groups in Bristol, Portishead and Clevedon and one-to-one and therapeutic group support sessions.Last year we supported 894 people.
Our impact on the communityReceiving the right support can make a huge difference when you are bereaved. When we are 'stuck' in our grief it is hard for us to move on and to make the most of our own lives. Cruse volunteers are trained to help bereaved people to talk about and explore their loss in order to come to terms with it and to face the future. 98% of our clients responding to our questionaire last year told us that they had experienced an improvement in their state-of-mind as a result of their Cruse sessions.
We have a wide range of volunteering opportunities; most of our bereavement support is provided by volunteers that we train.
