Discovery of the Pirate Treasure
As a low income area there are many needs in the community, employment opportunities are scarce and usually low paid, the youth have needs that including a place to meet that is safe and offers a chance to learn and have support. the work we do helps local businesses as we have visitors who come to participate in our events this helps the local economy and so creates employment opportunities. the people who participate learn, enjoy and remember their time with us and monies raised go to charity
over the last 4 years we have had around 10,000 people from all ages and abilities participate in our fun days. The feedback has been fantastic and people say they have had the best times of their lives. Those taking part have learned new skills, learnt about local heritage, helped raised money for local groups and met others while enjoying themselves. we believe employment opportunities have been increased and 2 world records have been broken, this has lifted the self esteem of participants.
the project is to put on a 3 day festival with Pirate theme, this will involve, music, arts, heritage, dance, community participation. the festival will celebrate life at sea and will include a mile'o'pirates challenge. This will be open to local and visiting public of all ages and abilities. Organisors are giving their time free. read more
