Volunteers assisting a pupil at Linton VC
Some children are failing to reach their full educational potential at school for a number of reasons. One of the reasons is that many classroom sizes are increasing so children do not get as much one to one support they often need. Another increasing reason we have found is that many children only speak English as their second language and therefore struggle to keep up in a classroom where they are taught in English.
Through working on a one to one with the children, our volunteers can often unlock the key to many children's learning. Not only do the volunteers help on a practical level, but they also help to raise the child's aspirations and inspire them to continue onto further education.
We provide children a with volunteer to work with them on any aspect of their education. The volunteers either help during class time or after school in Homework clubs or in the child's home. As the volunteers at Cambridge University come from all over the world we can help children who speak a wide range of languages and who require support in many different subject ranging from basic English, Maths and reading to A level Sciences. read more
