Carers feel they are forgotten by society, our website enables them to have contact 24 hours a day

A virtual community for carers operating from a base in Norwich. We care and support one another, and the carers who become ex carers usually decide to stay with us. We campaign to get carers on line, www.computers4carers.co.uk was set up in 2009 by Chill4Us to campaign to get carers on line, because they felt it was necessary to ease carers isolation and help them with the fear of caring. We need unused but working laptops. If you are a carer then we are ready to support you.
Why the community needs this charity

Chill4us has been running since August 2005. Our members tell us that our virtual community is like a family, so they no longer feel alone. We have 651 members with 1,363 followers on twitter and 233 on facebook. We have a 24 hour forum, chatroom and arcade. We hold hosted chats with MP's and other charities with an interest in carers. We have had meet ups, but this is normally too expensive for us to arrange. We would like to meet up in the autumn and our members are already getting excited.

Results and outcomes

Carers are in contact on the forum or the chatroom throughout the day. We would like to meet up with the friends we have made over the years, but have never met. A carer receives only £53.90 a week - the lowest benefit of its kind. And that's for a minimum of a 35-hour caring week. At £1.54 an hour, this is a third of the national minimum wage.
