The Cornerstone Charity Shop
We provide food parcels to people and families who are in poverty and cannot otherwise afford to put food on their tables. We provide training and volunteering opportunities to help people gain skills and qualifications to enable them to get back into work. We provide a charity shop selling recycled furniture, clothing and household goods, enabling those on low incomes to buy affordable quality items.
Our volunteers report having increased confidence and self esteem through 'giving something back' to their community. Our volunteers have gained level one qualifications and some are working towards level 3; they have gained an immense sense of achievement and self worth through this, as many came out of school without any qualifications at all. Providing affordable clothing is helping parents cope with financial burdens and the children feel great being able to have 'new' clothes.
Cornerstone Foodbank provides emergency food parcels for those most in need and who are referred in from local agencies. We provide non perishable food items to last about 3 days. People collect the food from us and we can refer onto other agencies/services where necessary; for example to help them with debt problems read more
we always require volunteers to help run our cafe and charity shop on a Saturday from 10am until 2pm. For the cafe, previous catering expereince would be preferred.
