Downham School Fund raises money for Downham school for children with severe learning difficulties.

Due to the complex needs of pupils at the school, the specialist equipment used for learning can be very expensive and regularly needs replacing. Funds raised for the provision of equipment and activities, allows for greater access for pupils to the world around them and increases their learning opportunities.
Why the community needs this charity

The School fund charity allows pupils to access facilities that would otherwise be out of reach.Past fund raising has enabled students to access disabled sailing,wheelchair ice skating, specialist residential provision and live music as well as the providing dark room sensory materials and Ten Tors equipment.This allows students to face new challenges and to gain life experiences that the school would otherwise be unable to offer.

Results and outcomes

Pupils aged from 3 to 16 have access to facilities that provide challenge and give them pride in their achievements. The impact of accessing something that has been tailored to need but that results in overcoming difficulties is immeasurable. The specialist equipment that has been purchased provides learning opportunities that will enrich the lives of those that use it and allow them to develop new skills.
