Support to cope with change and improve lives of emerging Eritrean and East Africa communities

To work with disadvantaged Eritreans and East Africans in London, towards empowering service users to understand the UK system and become more independent and make a positive contribution to the local community and integrate into the wider society through the provision of advice, information; workshops and one to one sessions. Support generations and cultures to work together and build a bridge through cultural activities; provide training on English language and job search skills.
Why the community needs this charity

Many first generation Eritreans in London cannot communicate effectively in English and lack access to relevant information, preventing them from accessing services such as employment, housing, immigration and health. Furthermore when parents do not speak English and the children do not speak their mother tongue language this can lead to cultural and community alienation and disintegration. EDCN works to address these issues in cooperation with other relevant organisations in resolving these.

Results and outcomes

Improved English language skills leading to understanding of rights and obligations which is crucial to integration Emerging communities will have improved understanding of the UK system. Improved confidence leading to engaging in life changing economic activities. Employability increases resulting in less people claiming benefits. Improved health and wellbeing as a result of their engagement, better communications skills and accessing available services.
