Cycling is very popular in Halton Moor. That said, it is a deprived neighbourhood and many of the residents who enjoy cycling will have a very different experience of the activity to someone from a less deprived background. Bikes are often poorly maintained and 'rides' will rarely venture off the estate. The project will provide a exciting, inspiring environment to those easily disengaged with mainstream society in which to build skills, confidence, friendships and a sense of belonging.
The Bike Project is intending to launch at the HM Community Day in July 2012. Plans for this event include a giant airbag with jumps, a bike workshop with clinics on bike maintenance and an ideas board shaping the future of the project. The future of the group will include - local rides; excursions into the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors, The Peak District and further afield; bike maintenance sessions and qualifications and; 'Learn to Ride' days for local community. read more
Potential recipients of the gardening project are either known by the committee or are referred to us by other residents. Before the project day, we meet to discuss what they want and need from their space, create a plan and order the necessary materials. On the day, we gather volunteers from across the community to help. We all bring our own tools to avoid having to buy any. Some members of the team organise food and drinks during the day, and perhaps a celebratory drink when finished! read more
