Our support for vulnerable families ensures that social cohesion is improved and community links and networks encouraged. The trained volunteers reduce the isolation of families and ensure they are introduced to local support networks. As confidence increases the family is able to play its full part in its local neighbourhood, participating in local groups and activities.
When parents themselves are in need of support their children are also likely to be adversely affected. By building up their confidence and emotional wellbeing, parents are more able to cope with the difficulties they face, and give their children the time, attention and love they need. Improving family relationships through the support of volunteers will have positive outcomes for both parents and children and can assist in preventing family break-up with all its long term consequences.
We place experienced and trained volunteers with families in need who have at least one child under five years old. The volunteers visit the family regularly or two hours a week, often three or four, and help with the familyâs health, education and financial needs including accessing services. They support parents to grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and widen their links with the local community.
