Ryde District Heritage Centre and Memory Bank needs you! Any memories of school in Ryde welcome.

To build a photographic and film archive, and create a permanent space for memories of Ryde. Many items of historic interest to the town are on display. HRS is working closely with the Isle of Wight Heritage Service, who are monitoring humidity and light levels in the Centre, and we hope that levels will stabilise and allow items currently in storage to be loaned for future display. Several items have already been loaned to the Centre, such as the Ryde Pier turnstiles, and arcade porter's badge.
Why the community needs this charity

HRS is creating Ryde District Heritage Centre and Ryde Memory Bank, an oral history project, which we hope will record and preserve people's memories of the town for the future. We wish to involve other local groups, who will be encouraged to exhibit in the Centre. We are already working closely with other groups in the town, local schools and businesses. Many old friendships are being renewed, as people spread the word, and visit the centre. Nearly 4000 images on screen evoke many memories.

Results and outcomes

Old friendships are being renewed, as people spread the word, and visit the centre. Everyone is amazed at what has been achieved over the last year, and HRS has raised nearly £100,000 for this project so far. Fundraising is an ongoing necessity, and events are held on a monthly basis. There is great support for the Centre in the local community, and over forty businesses have offered help, in one form or another. Nearly 4000 images on screen evoke many memories, and expressions of delight.
