The project engages with young people to create a better environment for all in Peterborough City Centre. Our work encourages and develops young volunteers to make Peterborough better. Through our drop-ins and creative workshops we contribute to reducing anti-social behaviour and support young people to reinforce a positive image of themselves. As part of our work we are developing support for struggling and disadvantaged young people who use the city centre. This includes mentoring provision.
Since the project began we have reached 100s of young people providing a safe space. We have encouraged them to get involved in creative workshops designed to help them learn a new skill We also have a growing group of young people volunteering across the city. Our most visiable impact has been helping young people to transform local underpasses using public art they design, replacing the graffiti. They always recieve positive feedback from passing people, adding to their sense of achievement.
Aimed at young people between 15-20 years old this group aims to encourage young people to develop and pass on their skills. Using Djing we aim to provide young people from across the city a common interest that they can benefit others with. We use local DJs to support local talent, providing a wider benefit to those young people interested in learning something new. The mentoring young people receive will enable them to develop life skills and develop a business. read more
After the success of transforming the Bluebell underpass in the summer of 2012 we are onto our next challenge. The Inspirations Studio team will be working with local young people and artists to design, prepare and paint the David's Lane underpass in Werrington. As part of this process young people are coached to develop their creative skills and support their local community. To preserve this public art for all to enjoy, the underpass is varnished to prevent future graffiti damage. read more
