In Touch Project

A quiet moment of reflection in Dorset A quiet moment of reflection in Dorset

We provide a range of support for people concerned or affected by someone else's drug or alcohol use

Our aim is to provide a confidential informative, supportive and therapeutic range of support for people concerned or affected by someone else's use of drugs or alcohol. Our aim is to 'reach out' to people over the age of 18 living in Somerset. We believe we can be the 'forgotten people' and try to reduce isolation and stigma. We try to connect people to a service and to each other. The 'recovery journey' of family members can also be a long process, and connecting with others can be a lifeline
Why the community needs this charity

By providing information and education to 'concerned others' this often improves health and wellbeing. Connecting people in a similar position helps reduce isolation and provides a way of coping better. Supporting 'concerned others', often has a positive impact on the person using substances. We have a range of options giving an opportunity for people to choose what help they need. Connecting people is raising awareness of the problems in the community and helping to reduce stigma.

Results and outcomes

A recent Community Information Day evaluation reported 100% of people attending felt better informed about local services and support available. Many people who have linked with In Touch have felt more confident to access and engage in further training and are volunteering.
