Supporting children and their families when someone special has died.

To provide support and information to children and their families who have experienced or are anticipating the death of someone special. The main part of the support is to offer a therapeutic group programme for bereaved children and their parents/carers. The sessions use creative activities to enable children to: express their feelings of grief; share memories; and explore ways of coping. The aim is to encourage happy memories and resilience for the future.
Why the community needs this charity

Our aim is to acknowledge the experience of grief for both children and their parents/carers. By running groups for those with similar experiences we aim to reduce the sense of isolation often felt by grieving children. By providing support for the whole family we hope that it opens up communication between family members. In the last year alone we have supported nearly 200 children in the local area.

Results and outcomes

At the end of each group programme families are given the opportunity to provide feedback on the experience of our service. We also have an open door policy so that families can re access our service if they feel that they need to. We have a low uptake of this due to reported satisfaction with the service.
