KWMC Summer Programme 2010

Imagination Station: KWMC Youth Programme

'The Drop-in Homework Club' gives young people a supportive environment in which to work together after school. 'Digital journalists - Voices of the South' use a range of media platforms to explore the issues that matter to them and young photographers' group undertake commissions while receiving fun informal training. Award-winning filmmakers 'Digital Fish' produce short films and animations, while 'Music and Lyrics' supports young people in producing music and writing songs.
Why they need our service

The Imagination Station, KWMC's Youth Programme has been developed at the request of local young people and following consultations with them. Children and young people make up more than a quarter of the population of the Filwood ward; we would like to increase the number of activities we offer and involve more young people in them.

Plan and expected results

The Imagination Station will enable young people aged 10-18 to participate in a range of fun, social, after-school groups where they can learn creative and technical skills in a secure and dynamic environment. They will have the chance to work with artists and will be supported in accessing further education opportunities. We hope our young people will grow in confidence and produce work that they and their community can be proud of and which will improve their future employment opportunities.

Older People Online

KWMC aims to create a sustainable online network for older people through a range of digital activities. This will involve delivering digital workshops at sheltered housing schemes in Knowle West and furthering our related work across the city, such as supporting the development of local community websites, the Silverscreen film club, weekly computer training sessions and the University of Local Knowledge project, which aims to share the knowledge and skills of the local community. read more
