Leeds Women's Aid (LWA) provides services and support for women and children who have experienced domestic violence and women trafficked for the sex trade. LWA provide a range of high quality, targeted services and support. The range of services provided include; emergency refuges or safe houses, resettlement support, group and one to one support, confidential telephone support, drop-in support in local hospitals and children's support. Safeguarding women and children is central to our work.
Any woman can experience domestic violence regardless of race, ethnic or religious group, class, disability or lifestyle. Domestic violence can include physical and sexual assault as well as emotional and financial abuse and control. By providing support to women and children affected by domestic violence we enable them to free themselves from dangerous situations, and remain free to live their lives safely. Leeds Women's Aid is a vital resource for the Yorkshire and Humber region.
In any one year, Leeds Women's Aid can support up to 52 women and 70 children who have experienced domestic violence in refuge accommodation. Since 2009 Leeds Women's Aid has supported 8 women successfully exit the sex industry through the Anneli project, which offers safe accommodation and support to women trafficked for the sex trade.
Would you like to join a dynamic and highly experienced team of women working with women and children experiencing domestic violence? We are looking for volunteers to encompass all areas of our work. These include:~confidential telephone support, resettlement work (working with women when they move onto independent living), drop-in and group sessions, fundraising and administration.
