Rising levels of obesity, binge drinking and smoking amongst children and young people together with the consequent anti-social behaviour are clear indications that they are not placing health as a priority in their lives. There are many reasons for this, including socio-economic factors and media and peer influence, and our programmes are designed to tackle these. We work with over 30,000 children every year making a difference to children's lives in your community.
An increase in children's knowledge, skills and confidence, and the number of children choosing healthy lifestyles. A stronger sense of self esteem and self confidence. Skills to enable them to walk away with confidence from the influences and pressure they may face from others to experiment with harmful substances. Our programmes help children: to stay safe from bullying and discrimination and to have security and stability; to develop positive relationships.
New puppets: videos, song and 'Harold' the giraffe puppet are used as prompts for discussions looking at who the pupils could talk with if they were worried about problems they had. 'Harold' is rather old and showing signs of wear, so needs replacing. We also want to introduce a new girl puppet to be used as an aid to delivering programmes to younger children, for talking to them about medicines, and would also be used when delivering our 'friendship' programmes. read more
Training costs of a new Educator: our aim is to visit as many children as possible, and in particular we want to increase the number we visit in central Berkshire. To do this we have recruited a new Educator but we do not want to pass on their training costs to schools. Any funds we raise towards this cost will keep our charges to schools to a minimum. read more
