With local schools suffering budget reductions there is a need to offer help to vulnerable children in our local community
Play therapy can help children with a range of difficulties - Learning or behavioral difficulties - Emotional problems - Suffered bereavement - Family breakdown - Communication problems - Suffered abuse or neglect - Nightmares - Being bullied or bullying other children - Aggressive outbursts
11 Year old boy 'I have more friends now. I feel happier and less angry. I also feel closer to my family, and I like that I am kinder. I enjoyed playing games with Nicky.' 7 year old girl 'I'm not as shy any more and feel happier at school. I enjoy coming to school every day.' 8 year old boy 'I'm not fighting as much any more so I don't get into trouble. Enjoyed making up stories and doing drawings in my sessions.'
We use a non-directive approach where the child leads the sessions and chooses from a range of art and play materials. By doing this they build a trusting relationship and feel safe to express their emotions. If we feel the child is stuck with a particular issue we can help direct and support them to work through their emotions. Art, drama, role-play, storytelling, music, puppets, dance and movement, sand trays and clay. read more
