Luton Choral Society - A choir of mixed voices, performing classical choral music concerts.
The object of the Society shall be to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in and appreciation of the art and science of music in all its aspects by the presentation of public choral concerts and by such other ways as the Society through its Committee shall determine from time to time. The Society performs three concerts each year.
Why the community needs usLuton has a large ethnic population, with a wide variety of cultures. There are many artistic groups in the town, especially rock, pop, theatre & dance. There are very few classical music groups.Luton Choral Society provides the opportunity for people to sing in a classical choir & for audiences to hear live classical music in their own locality.Choir members benefit from weekly rehearsals, when they learn the pieces & get advice on how to sing. Audiences of about 100 attend the concerts.
Our impact on the communityThe choir has about 60 members from mixed backgrounds. They all get a lot of enjoyment from rehearsals and the performances. In June 2012, African Sanctus, attracted an audience of 315, which is an all time record attendance. There were many compliments about the concert that was a community project, involving Luton Youth Cantores, Someries School Drummers and an art competition, held in the Carnival Arts Centre. In July 2013 the choir sang in London - Elgar's Dream of Gerontius.
Singers of all voices are welcome to join the choir.
