Tennis for all ages, with a strong junior coaching programme and links with schools
MPTC has come a long way since it was formed in 1923. Originally the preserve of the professional classes, the club has over the years become more inclusive, and today we welcome members from any background and aim to be an integral part of the community. Our coach, Simon McBride, is highly regarded for his work with juniors. He introduced the club's mini tennis programme, works with both members and non-members in his regular coaching sessions and has set up links with a local primary school.
Why the community needs usThe club provides opportunities to take part in a vigorous physical activity with recognised health benefits. The coaching is not aimed primarily at producing champions but to promote lifelong enjoyment for people from all backrounds and to encourage those from social groups not normally attracted by tennis clubs to participate in the sport.
Our impact on the communityThe club is entirely run by volunteers who have been members for many years. We have no employees, though the coach is paid for his work. The club has been coaching juniors since the 1980s, giving many young people not only the opportunity to discover the sport but also to learn values such as sportsmanship and discipline.
