We are looking for funds for our Youth/Schools Korfball programme

Korfball is a mixed sex, team sport often described as a mixture between netball, basketball and handball. MK City Korfball Club is a Community Sport Club (in fact 3 clubs as one: Roos, Colossus and Rogues training on separate nights with sub committees but all feeding into MK City). We have 60 adult members and run 7 senior teams. We run a very open youth development programme, MKX, with 4 teams, and work in 27 MK schools during curriculum time and after school.
Why the community needs this charity

We provide sporting opportunities for men and women, boys and girls, and all ages from 7 to over 50. This brings health benefits, and a genuine alternative to the gym or to traditional school sports. For our junior programme, we take coaches into primary and secondary schools all over Milton Keynes to offer korfball in school time or as after-school clubs, and also offer teams for all young people from age 7-16 at an affordable cost.

Results and outcomes

We have introduced korfball to thousands of MK schoolchildren. We are now starting to see players come through from junior to senior ranks, with two of our youth players playing in the top regional league, just one division below the national league. Our annual tournament was, in 2011, the largest adult tournament in the UK with 40 teams taking part, and also offered junior matches in three age groups.

Festival of Korfball

We are aiming to run a "festival of korfball" across spring/summer 2012, with extra coaching sessions and taster days for both new schools and youth groups who have not experienced korfball before, and our existing groups read more

Volunteers Required

We need volunteers for data entry of teams/scorers into the "FixturesLive" online system. People need to be IT literate and have a CRB check. We also need help with promotion/marketing to recruit new players. We are also looking for assistant coaches, who need a Level 1 korfball coaching qualification (1-day course is held frequently; a background in other team sports is OK for non-korfballers). We also have similar paid and unpaid junior coaching roles which also require a CRB check.
