Muirhouse Youth Development Group is a Youth Work charity based in Muirhouse, North Edinburgh

MYDG is a voluntary youth organisation based in Muirhouse, Edinburgh, an area of high unemployment, low educational achievement and social exclusion. MYDG works with young people aged 8 - 25 years around sports and outdoor activities as well as issue based work. We run open provision, drop ins, groups for girls, sports clubs, volunteering courses and training, residentials as well as acting as a feeder into our social enterprise/trading arm.

Muirhouse Youth Development Group (MYDG) is a community organisation dedicated to improving the lives of young people from one of the most deprived areas in Scotland - Muirhouse, North Edinburgh. It has a 10 year track record of providing employment support and quality training for the most disadvantaged, including 16-25 year olds who are unemployed, unskilled and facing multiple challenges in their lives.

Results and outcomes

As a result of MYDG's activities we: -increase young peoples self-worth, sense of self, sense of belonging to a positive community and improve their mental health and development. -raise young people's awareness of their potential, their skills, abilities and rights. -help young people learn through outdoor and physical activity to participate in a group, contribute positively to their community and build positive relationships with peers, familiy and community leaders and youth workers.

Latest activities and projects

Northern Lights

15 young people will be supported on to a 6 month training programme using activities and employability training to develoipe their confidence and self-esteem and help them towards susstaining long term employment or college placement. The project will involve weekly activities, two residentials and culminate in a week sailing aboard a sailing boat they will staff. read more
