Drama Themed Youth Club for young people in West Somerset aged 13-18.

To encourage young people to engage in creative activities and to develop drama and theatre skills in a way which will encourage them to contribute to community activities or to pursue a related career. To take part in full scale drama productions, smaller scale work for friends, festivals or other groups, creative workshops, and visits to theatres and events.

Why the community needs this charity

MYT is important to young people in our area as it provides a creative forum outside school, where young people can pursue their interest in the performing arts and theatre. MYT performs at the Regal Theatre, the community theatre of Minehead. Performances are enjoyed by a large number of other young people and adults. It is a member of the MATA (Regal Theatre) Co. Ltd. a registered charity (No. 1052714)which runs the theatre and young people represent the group on the board of directors.

Results and outcomes

Members have gone on to join the National Youth Theatre or to follow theatre studies at college or university and to pursue careers in the performing arts or film. According to age & experience, young people manage every aspect of performance; stage management, lighting, sound, direction. They help select a play, design and build a set, disseminate publicity, and are members of the band in a musical production. MYT provides leadership experience for those on its mainly youth committee.
