Music workshops in special/mainstream schools, residential homes and hospitals; rural concert tours

To further enjoyment of music by the performance of public concerts especially in rural communities. To relieve the elderly, sick or disabled by organising concerts, music workshops and similar activities in residential homes, nursing homes and hospitals. To encourage participation in music, drama, music theatre, dance and related arts by organising concerts, workshops and other educational activities in schools.

Why the community needs this charity

We have successfully run 120+ music drama workshops in rural primary schools, 10+ after-school workshops for Brownies, 50+ music drama workshops in special schools, 45+ music with exercise/singing/relaxation workshops for the elderly in 20+ residential homes/day care centres; provided music to support clinical hospital staff in 20+ falls / cardiac rehab clinics; and toured Sussex giving numerous public concerts. These venues could not host these events without external funding.

Results and outcomes

Each event is evaluated by those present. Comments: Primary Schools 'Fabulous. Childrens' total involvement...an inspiration to those already playing instruments'. Special Schools 'Your creativity talents and empathy impacted positively on every learner improving social interactions, communication and sense of worth'. Brownies 'Much rather do this than watch telly'. Elderly 'Please come again, soon'. Hospital 'I worked harder at my exercises'. Concert 'wonderful evening, you played beautifully'.

Live music with exercise/singing workshops in residential homes

To use a group of four wind instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon) to provide a series of enjoyable, engaging, simulating and therapeutic workshops to enhance the well-being of residents allowing them to exercise gently to music (if appropriate), sing, reminisce, contribute to the music with percussive instruments, and relax. read more

Music Drama Workshop based on the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games

We will take a wind quintet into 3 Sussex Special Schools with 6 workshops in each. We will engage the children in a stimulating, rewarding development experience based on the theme of the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games, using music and drama. The children will help create the story, act out the drama and accompany New Harmonie using classroom instruments. They will present the resulting performance to other children in their school, staff, parents and invited guests. read more
