Enabling the community to develop Pendower as an attractive estate where people want to live

4 work areas: Improving housing and environmental conditions and amenities and services for the estate. Capacity building and improving quality of life through informal training, healthy living initiatives, and community events. Providing developmental opportunities and better chances for children and young people through out of school activities and volunteering opportunities. Supporting older residents to live independently in their own community through practical help and social activities.
Why the community needs this charity

Originally built as one of the first council estates in England, Pendower estate now ranks within the top 10% of most deprived neighbourhoods, particularly for health, education, income and employment. Pendower also has higher than average numbers of older people and children and young people. We work with the community to develop and run a range of services and actvities to help improve their lives giving people the opportunity to develop their potential and to be valued.

Results and outcomes

Our work is: Creating a happier, healthier more cohesive estate working together to tackle antisocial behaviour and crime. Creating good memories for young people, raising aspirations and helping break the cycle of deprivation. Giving older people the confidence to remain in their own homes by the provision of practical help like gardening and DIY, social activities and a lunch club. Providing volunteering opportunities to build skills and confidence and help people out of poverty through work.
