Powerchair Football in action
We have responded to the growing need for specialist services and with your help could provide many more opportunities for disabled people to play a full and active roll in the community. We currently work with more than 1,000 disabled children, adults and their families across the North East and beyond each year.
Many disabled children and adults have learned the skills to become more independent and are able to enter in to all aspects of North East community life. For example, with your support, participants at the Percy Hedley Sports Academy have been shortlisted to play for England in the Powerchair Football World Cup in Paris and our Multi Media unit was asked to produce a documentary about the Tyne Tunnel International Wheelchair Race which was highly acclaimed and premiered at the Tyneside Cinema.
This new, state of the art facility will be complement the facilities at the Percy Hedley Sports Academy in Killingworth. It will also be a regional centre for Halliwick swimming, a special technique to teach swimming and independence in water to disabled children and adults. The pool will also provide fitness programmes, water based therapy programmes and lots of fun for disabled people from all over the North East. read more
We have many volunteering opportunities working with disabled people of all ages including supporting children in learning activiies, summer school and residential trips. We also need volunteers to support adults in accessing community and recreational activities and disability sports. We also need volunteers to help at various fundraising events and with some administrative tasks.
