A COMMUNITY WOODLAND to be enjoyed by all, nature lovers, the elderly, the young, walkers and pets.
The land which is now Pigneys Wood was purchased in October 1993 and is owned and managed by The North Norfolk Community Woodland Trust through a Board of Trustee/Directors supported by volunteers.
North Norfolk Community Woodland Trust is a registered charity whose aim is to create new community woodland in areas where woodland access is difficult.
Why the community needs usPigneys Wood is accessible at all times by the public and is enjoyed by schoolchildren and the very young, gaining an early experience of nature, and by older generations either walking their pets or, simply, seeking peace and tranquillity in a busy world. There are three picnic areas, with seating, and a dipping platform for the use of schools and the young. There are three signed walks. All are easy going and rated in terms of the time they take to complete at a relatively gentle pace.
Our impact on the communityAll of our work is geared to providing and maintaining facilities for the general public who use the wood and both the trustee/directors and volunteers derive great satisfaction fom the feedback we receive from those who use, and enjoy, the facilities provided.Recently completed project work has greatly enhanced these facilities and made access to them far easier. Future works include the restoration of the wetland area which will further enhance the facilities to the benefit of wildlife.
Excluding major project works which are usually carried out by contract most of the work which takes place within the wood is concerned with general maintenance for which no special skills or qualifications are required.
Such work usually entails, maintaining footpaths, and repairing steps, clearing underbrush, removing overhanging branches, planting trees flowers and shrubs, upkeep of picnic areas and signage, moving timber and general repairs.
All tools are supplied on site.
