Information for families & fun
Many parents with children and young people with disabilities struggle with isolation and parenting because of the extra pressures that their families face. Parenting Special Children identified this need and work alongside local boroughs in Berkshire, health professionals and other charities in order to offer support to families.
PSC have supported over 500 families in the past 5 years. We have provided specialist parenting programmes and have worked with a wide range of families. Our courses are well attended and feedback from families is very positive. We play a key role in a local parenting forum and have provided a number of information events for families. We have recently set up a new Diagnosis Support Service for families who have a new diagnosis of a disability for their child or young person.
We offer families the opportunity to talk in a relaxed setting with refreshments, childcare when needed and at a local location. Families are able to visit the service as many times as they need, giving them the chance to take time to navigate the new journey that they have embarked upon. We provide information to families about local and national organisations who can support the family. read more

The Diagnosis Support Service offers a weekly opportunity for parent/carers to come and talk to a trained peer supporter (a parent who has already been through the process of diagnosis) who will listen to them and provide information about local support services in the area that they live. All our peer supporters receive training before becoming a peer supporter. The Diagnosis Support Service operates in Reading, Newbury and Wokingham.
