Running Deer CIC: bush craft and rural skills activities & training. Learn it! Live it! LOVE it

Running Deer C.I.C. is a Devon based enterprise set up to support local people and people at risk of exclusion, for example those with learning & mental health difficulties, disabled, and long term unemployed including NEETS; and provides access to training, volunteering, life skills opportunities and work experience in bush & camp crafts, traditional & rural skills, and related activities.
Why the community needs this charity

We provide opportunities for people at risk of exclusion to experience life in the wild with our bush craft day care opportunities; group activities and rural skills courses. Benefits can include Improved communication,Team building, Active participation, Self esteem, Healthy eating and cookery, Personal development, Leadership skills, Improved motor skills, Observation & recording skills; our practical hands on training in Rural Skills can help those seeking employment in a rural industry.

Results and outcomes

It is recognised that everyone benefits from having access to nature and physical activity. and that a greener, more active lifestyle aids positive changes to our mental health. With this in mind all our activities are based around bush & camp craft & the benefits include: Access to nature, improved communication, team building, group participation, improved self esteem, healthy eating & cookery, personal development, leadership skills, improved motor skills, observation & recording skills.

Latest activities and projects

Bush Craft Taster Day - Free

A bush craft and camp adventure might include building fires; making shelters & camp structures, wild food foraging, camp cooking, nature study, photography, camp crafts, rural skills, green woodworking and whittling, or simply enjoying the benefits of sitting with new friends around a camp fire; plus Wulf our Mascot will be there and Trelawny the Shire horse may be too. read more

Volunteers Required

We are looking for volunteers who enjoy getting muddy, and enjoy going home with smell of woodsmoke in their hair; who enjoy supporting people with disabilities, the unemployed and people wanting to improve their self esteem. We are looking for volunteers who enjoy being outdoors, love nature and want to make a real difference in the community.
