Somerset Rural Youth Project is a rural regeneration organisation whose mission is to work with young people, encouraging them to take responsibility for themselves and become actively involved in shaping the communities in which they live. By concentrating on young people's needs and concerns, regeneration targets including measurable social and economic outputs will be met with greater learning and commitment, resulting in cohesive and sustainable communities.
We work with young people and the communities where they live. We encourage and inspire young people to develop pride and ownership of where they live through becoming much more involved in society.
In 2010-11 we worked with 3085 young people (many of who gain support from more than one of our projects), 134 received accredited outcomes, 153 were supported to maintain or re-enter education, and 45 gained employment. Our community work has seen us greatly reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and friction in the communities where we work.
We are keen to recruit volunteers who are willing to give time to developing our work and professional practice.
