Thalia Theatre Company Reg Charity No 1105132 member of Social Enterprise Norfolk

Thalia is an independent, educational 'arts' related learning provider for disabled people in particular, but not exclusively, in the Eastern region. Thalia works with disabled people to support independence skills, physical and mental well-being, personal development and confidence building. We operate a structured day to simulate a work environment. We have three strands to our work, community outreach, professional development/consultancy workshops and performances.
Why the community needs this charity

An opportunity for people marginalised in society to demonstrate their skills and talents, raising expectation and aspirations of beneficiaries. A key element of the work of the company is to educate and inform mainstream society that we are all equal and can achieve great things with our lives, given the opportunity. Our theatre work and performances address social issues and break down barriers to communication with mainstream society.

Results and outcomes

Increased confidence and self esteem. Raised expectations. Improved communication and advocacy skills. Improved physical and mental health as a result of engaging in meaningful and purposeful learning. Improved practical and co-ordination skills. Team work and organisational skills. Access to Music

Thalia wants to offer accessible music making opportunities to members. We are looking to purchase 2 electronic keyboards (which offer a rich variety of sounds and affects) and an electronic drum machine. The additional use of the voice using microphones will enrich the sounds available. We are also looking to purchase an iMac with integrated Garage Band software which is fully accessible and will give those with learning disabilities and complex needs an opportunity to explore their talents. read more
