The Activity Den is a fantastic children and young people's charity in Stanley, County Durham.
Our main aim is to "Improve the lives of children and young people from Tanfield Lea, Stanley and the surrounding areas". We offer a wide range of opportunities to people. We welcome everyone through our doors. We are Inclusive, democratic and young people led. We are open 6 days and 5 evenings every week. Our innovative project is attracting national attention, including from the Office of Civic Society.
Why the community needs usThe Den works with children and their families, many with problems such as poor health, low self confidence and esteem. By improving the lives of young people through engagement and educational activity around the issues that they face, we can help give them a better start in life. All over the Stanley area we face tough challenges as many projects have gone or are under severe threat. With your help and support The Activity Den can thrive and become a vital part of our young people's community.
Our impact on the communityThe Den works with between 200 - 250 young people each week and when we have youth workers in post we expect this to rise to around 500 each week. We have around 25 young people who volunteer as junior caretakers, youth workers and taking part in charity fundraisers. They benefit from spending time doing educational activities which help support their development and by having their voice heard. Our project is going so well and with additional funding we can do so much more in our community.
Volunteering is a key priority for The Den. We have over 30 CRB checked volunteers however we still have many opportunities to fill. Such as volunteering with children and young people, being a Director, fundraising, publicity such as producing leaflets, administration, IT, events organisation. Both short-term and long-term opportunities available. Whatever your skills and interests we have a volunteering role for you!
