The Angel Project We are a multi-functional community facility and cafe for locals and visitors

The Charity provides a multi-purpose community venue for the rural mid Somerset town of Langport and it's surrounding dependant villages of over 3000 homes, open to all. It's purpose is to provide a community hub for social and welfare activities for the all. Facilities are limited at present, as the building needs major renovation work. Activities will increase as spaces opens up. We operate a community café to provide income to support social & welfare programmes, run entirely by volunteers

Why the community needs this charity

Like larger towns there are areas of deprivation and public space is needed for clubs and groups to meet. The charity has identifies needs in the community such as incorporating migrant workers and their families. Youth have limited facilities and some have been lost due to the current economic climate. The building will also be used for services such as an internet cafe and credit union. Volunteer work for the social good and well being of the local community is the essence of the activities.

Results and outcomes

Lingo Links - conversational English as a second language started because of a need to help residents from abroad integrate in the community. Poles were easily identifiable, since opening, also Spanish, those from the Indian sub-continent have joined. Young mothers with minimal English skills have been embraced and enjoyed reduced isolation. A youth group of +30 children operates weekly. A prayer group meets weekly. Games and entertainment evenings help social building and cohesion

We want to provide an interactive community facility where all are welcome, especially single people, those who feel lonely and out of touch with society, mothers and children to meet and greet, those wishing for just some where to go in a warm, inviting and friendly atmosphere.
