Schools are always looking for innovative ways to teach foreign languages to their pupils. We have been able to respond to this need by taking this accessible French language production into primary schools and providing unique extra-curricular resources. Recent research has shown that the UK is losing its place in the global marketplace due to its lack of language skills. The ability to speak a foreign language is an enriching experience and brings huge commercial benefits to employers.
With this project, we intend to imbue children with confidence and motivation in language learning, gain positive attitudes to other cultures and discover the wider horizons that knowledge of other languages can open up for them including widening their future employment options.
The show has been very well received by the schools on its tour of the UK. Teachers have told us how pleased they have been with the high quality of the performances and workshops and how the children have been able to benefit from the experience. 'Many children commented on the show afterwards. They were excited and enthusiastic at the idea that they had watched and understood a show in another language. They also enjoyed being able to recognise vocabulary from their own learning.'
TSF and The Sage Gateshead are working together on a fun and interactive theatre show in French for 8 to 12 year olds. La Chanson du Retour (a song to take you home) is about a young girl, Léa, who finds herself transported into the strange world of her computer game and cannot get home without finding a mystery song. Packed with funky songs, rap, rhythms and dance, the show will be toured to schools nationwide, but especially to schools in the north-east region. read more
