To advance the public's education & understanding of art, craft, design & history, in particular but not exclusively by acquiring, operating & maintaining The Bowes Museum, its collections & associated grounds at Barnard Castle, County Durham. Until June 2016, we have the opportunity to create a Catalyst Endowment of £1m which will be matched £1 for £1 by the DCMS & Heritage Lottery Fund. Your donation will give support towards securing the future of the Museum for the next 100 years & beyond.
The Museum offers visitors & the local community a vibrant exhibition programme, bringing objects & exhibitions of national & international significance to the North East. Schools have access to high quality art & educational expertise & the conservation team supports smaller institutions in the area & cares for our own collections for future generations to enjoy. The landscaped park is used by many & the Museum contributes to the local rural economy & is an iconic landmark in Upper Teesdale.
It is sometimes forgotten that The Bowes Museum is a charity & that it relies on funding & donations to care for the collections, building & grounds as well as striving to display a rich & diverse exhibition & education programme. Your donation to the Catalyst Endowment will enable it to continue to operate as a world class institution & develop its exhibitions, education programme & conservation, & achieve its aim to become a centre of research & excellence, & an amazing destination for all.
