To advance the public's education and understanding of art, craft, design and history, in particular but not exclusively by acquiring, operating and maintaining The Bowes Museum, its collections and associated grounds at Barnard Castle, County Durham.
To involve communities with exhibitions, events and a vibrant education programme, it is a unique facility for local schools to access high quality collections and educational expertise. The conservation team support smaller institutions in the area and share knowledge and skills to the large number of volunteers. The park is used by both local residents and visitors and the Museum is a major component of the local economy and is an iconic landmark in Upper Teesdale.
It is sometimes forgotten that The Bowes Museum is a charity and that it relies on funding and donations in order to continue its care for the collections, building and grounds as well as striving to display a rich and diverse exhibition and education programmes. Your help will aid the Museum to continue to develop its education and conservational activities and to help safe guard the building, collections and park for future generations.
