Performing Arts based social inclusion, education and training charity for children and young people

The Garage Trust is a Norwich-based youth arts and social inclusion charity. Our vision is to combat social exclusion and raise young people's aspirations through high quality creative and educational activities. We provide local delivery of skills workshops, courses, classes, creative projects, volunteering, community outreach, performance opportunities, education projects and accredited training. We work with all young people but particularly support those from disadvantaged circumstances.
Why the community needs this charity

We work with 2500 young people a year in our venue and in local communities. We help young people enjoy creative activities with peers from different backgrounds. Although creative, our work is focussed on delivery of positive educational outcomes for young people. These include skills development such as communication, leadership and teamwork and progression to further education, training or employment. The Garage venue is used by 10,000 people a year through community groups and arts groups.

Results and outcomes

Young people tell us that through our activities they feel more positive about their future, learn new skills and realise that they can be good at things. They make new friends, access support and advice and feel safe at The Garage. Individuals gain qualifications, often for the first time, are able to share their success with parents and take a positive role in their local communities through volunteering. Young people progress into education, training and employment.
