Childrens' Activity Group

Arts and crafts are an integral part of the club as children of all abilities can contribute and get pleasure from these activities. The club also offers activities such as games and drama and occasional outdoor activities that are tailored to the very different needs of the participants.
Why they need our service

This group provides fun and meaningful activities for learning disabled children and their siblings. For the learning disabled child the group provides a change from everyday life at home or school with activities that are enjoyable and achievable. For the siblings the group provides fun, social activities alongside their sibling and for the parents they have some time to themselves. This is the only leisure activity for learning disabled children and their siblings within Wokingham Borough.

Plan and expected results

Learning disabled children and their siblings will enjoy fun activities together, increasing their self esteem and confidence. The children will gradually build friendships and participate voluntarily in the activities. The relationships are based on mutual support, rather than caring, helping to keep families together. Parents of learning disabled children have some time for themselves, as a parent said, "J looks forward to the morning...it is also a great relief for me to be able to chill".
