Our aim is to nurture and celebrate creativity. We are the leading multi-arts organisation in North East Scotland; exploring art, environment, technology and ideas as a way of inspiring change in our communities.
Deeside is a very disparate community. Little villages to bigger towns are strewn around the area from Braemar to Banchory. With a higher than average number of people moving into the area for work and with an increasing elderly population, we use the arts to bring our communities together; to reduce isolation and depression and increase confidence and conversation that will make us all more connected and happy in our lives.
Woodend Arts hosted some 200 performances, workshops and art exhibitions in 2011 with a total attendance of about 12,000. This includes many local groups such as Third Stage which runs weekly art and craft workshops for older people. WAA also hosted a number of events in Braemar and Tarland as part of a new outreach programme. We receive a great deal of positive feedback from workshop participants and audience members. Enjoyment, increased well-being and less travel are frequent outcomes.
Woodend Arts has a small staff team and a large network of volunteers. There are many potential opportunities for volunteers spanning different art-forms and activities and including Board membership. The opportunities change from time to time so please see our website for current information:
