Exercise is essential for health and wellbeing. The physically disabled youngsters we help have limited or non-existent independent movement. Sensory or learning impairments are often incompatible with sports involving irrational patterns of movement, plus excitement and noise which can be intolerable for many disabilities. What we take for granted is denied such individuals. Our clients and their families benefit from the alternative we offer - regular weekly riding sessions - safe & supported.
The HORSE generates activity transmitted through the rider in 3 ways: balance, coordination, movement. Rhythmic movement is soothing, particularly for those with Autism. A physical; sensual; social and fun experience. Riders enjoy independent movement in control of 4 legs. Wheelchair users look down on their companions for a change. It is liberating requiring the rider to consider the horse's needs rather than receiving care. Proven benefits include improved muscle tone, confidence & self-worth.
WOODSIDE FARM STABLES RDA is always seeking to recruit additional volunteers to help with riding sessions and stable work. We also need people interested in becoming Trustees of the Charity and to deal with paperwork. If you think this type of volunteering would suit you, contact the Secretary for an information pack: Mrs. W. Pritchett 01623 627974
