SPARK Educare learning centre study club in West Reading helping excluded children

Our main activities focus on young people excluded from mainstream schools. We fill in the gaps in their learning, often small things they do not fully understand or have forgotten due to inadequate practice and revision. Pupils are given a small test at the beginning of every session to measure their progress. As they see how they are improving, their confidence is boosted. We also do activities such clay modelling, drawing, debate and dance so that they can fully express themselves
Why they need our service

Our afterschool study clubs support children who are struggling with basic maths and English skills. Too often not enough time has been spent on things like spelling, the alphabet and number tables. We concentrate on these core areas to bring children back up to speed with their fellow classmates and give them the confidence to further their education.

Plan and expected results

Our goal is to help the young people of Reading reach their full potential. We encourage pupils to develop all their skills be that science, maths, English, art, dance or drama. Our afterschool clubs help pupils advance their learning and school progress, giving them confidence and well rounded skills

Final Results

Activities occur everyday throughout the school year with afterschool study club and homework sessions and weekend and holiday drop-in sessions.

Sponsor Joe in the Reading Half Marathon

Please sponsor our Centre Manager Joe. He's running the Reading Half Marathon in support of young people excluded from mainstream education. The marathon is regarded as one of the fastest half marathon courses in the world and is the second biggest half marathon in the UK. Many runners use the event as a warm up for the London Marathon. We would very much appreciate your support as Joe runs the course. Please sponsor him today so that young people can get the right start in education.  read more
